Being an Introvert in a Business.

Being a Serial Entrepreneur and loving the Self Development culture I have been to a lot of huge business conferences and also to MasterMind events, I have multiple social media accounts, and multiple businesses; all of this comes naturally until the social aspect comes in. I am an introvert and Empathic; I love people, I love hugging people, I love teaching people about health and nutrition and also talking about lifestyle but it is also difficult for me to.

Today’s world is all about being social; building a social following, building personal relationships and getting your voice heard. Having a start up company these are important things in being successful.

What is an empath and an introvert? An empath is someone who is sensitive to other peoples emotions and energies around them. An introvert is someone who is shy or even has anxiety at the thought of socializing and being around other people.

Everyday I get to step outside of my comfort zone and push myself to be more social and it looks different in each day. My blog and talking about myself is one way; I get to teach people from a distance and also tell my story but being open and vulnerable is scary. What if people don’t like me or what I have to say?? I have learned to turn that reaction off by learning to love myself.

When I go out with friends to lunch or to just hang out while I am planning the date I start to feel anxiety creep in and my brain tells me to make an excuse so that I don’t have to go out and be around other people. Social anxiety for an introvert is a real thing, plus being an empath and feeling a lot of emotions from the people around me can heighten that anxiety.

Social anxiety doesn’t help when I as a Health Coach get to talk to people everyday and up until last year set an appointment and meet with them in person so I had to learn ways to break myself out of social anxiety aspect and put myself out there everyday and eventually it does get easier.

Each day I get to overcome these obstacles to support others and to build business awareness by setting up a plan and a schedule. I make sure to schedule out each day with simple tasks like take a selfie, make a small video on social media, create a blog post, create posts talking about myself. When the feelings of anxiety start to creep up I stop and take a few deep breaths and tell myself that I am badass and that I can accomplish anything.. especially talking to people.

If I am setting up a call with a client or a lunch date when those feelings to say no and make excuses come up with a system like once it is in your schedule you are not allowed to cancel it (of course its an emergency) and become a “yes” man. Make the appointment or date and put it in your schedule and you’re doing this and now you have to follow through.

One way to overcome is to start making videos and going live on social media apps; I have not gotten to this point of bravery myself. I have been on the new app called Clubhouse and listening into some groups and making myself raise my hand to ask a question so that I can get out of my comfort zone and than one day I will be hosting discussions and running rooms myself.

At a conference I saw Mel Robbins speak and she was amazing but one something she said hit me and supported me breaking out of my anxiety bubble; “The 5 Second Rule The moment you have an instinct to act on a goal you must 5-4-3-2-1 and physically move or your brain will stop you.”
Mel Robbins

This is the method I use the most and really works and as you continue to do this on tasks that are difficult it becomes habit and in turn becomes easier and easier to do. Creating good habits like these are key to breaking yourself out of that anxiety bubble.

Being empathic and an introvert can be difficult in life but especially in business but you don’t have to be stuck there you can break out of it and be that beautiful blossoming social butterfly and build your business and social following.

Thank you for following my journey. Please comment and share with your friends and family. I would love to hear from you how you are liking the content and if there is something you would like me to discuss in a post.
