What is a Health Coach?
I get the question a lot about what is a Health Coach? Health Coaches are pretty new to the scene and so not a lot of people know exactly what we do. Yes there have been people that are doing what we do for along time but this term and the amount of people who are entering the field is newer and at a higher rate. Everyone has heard of a Personal Trainer, A Fitness Coach, a Life Coach, a Business Coach; so how are we different from those Coaches?
As a Health Coach we help our clients figure out their health goals; they can be very simple goals or they can be long term intense goals, then we help you find the why in your goal. Finding your why is very important to you staying consistent and accomplishing your goals, if you don’t know your why or if your why is not deep and emotional that it might not be a strong enough reason to stick it through till the end.
Once we have found your why and set your goal intentions we get to make a game plan on the steps to achieve your goals and how long you want to take to achieve them. We provide you with resources, knowledge and accountability so that you can follow your plan stress free and know that someone has your back the whole way through.
What exactly does it take to hit your health goal? Well each person is different even if they have the same goal as someone else. Lets take weight loss for example; we take a step back and look at different aspects of your individual life and see where changes need to be made and what aspect of your life that you want to improve upon. We mainly work with the nutrition aspect of your lifestyle but thats not the only thing we do; we were trained in all aspects of a healthy lifestyle so that we can teach and guide you in those areas.
We work on your relationships, your relationship with money, managing stress, sleep, nutrition, what brings you joy, physical activity, your career, your social life, your spirituality, your education, creativity and many more aspects. All these aspects of your life are intertwined and they have an affect on our health. When one of these is out of balance and you are unhappy with it than that has a negative effect on your health and you may even see it hinder you in achieving your health goal. This is one reason people give up on their goals because they work so hard on one aspect like just their nutrition or just adding physical activity and don’t see the results they want.
Each Health Coach specializes in a specific area of health and lifestyle so its best to shop around and find a health coach that is right for you and your goals. It is okay if you don’t pick the first coach you come across, it is important to find a coach that your feel comfortable with and that you feel like you can be vulnerable with. It is important to your healing and goal achieving if you can be vulnerable with your coach. Think of us as therapists that have the knowledge of nutrition and healthy lifestyle to listen and guide you.
